Restaurant Photography at Forty 1° North in Newport, Rhode Island
A Dream Summer Shoot in New England
There’s nothing better than a New England summer, especially when you get to experience it at Forty 1° North. Hydrangeas in full bloom, oysters and champagne by the ocean, and long nights with the sea breeze to cool you down — it’s the perfect setting for restaurant photography.
This stunning boutique hotel and restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island was an absolute dream to shoot. From start to finish, the Forty 1° North team collaborated with me to make sure we captured the details that make their property special: a mix of food, lifestyle photography, and scenic exteriors to round it all out.
Capturing the Atmosphere and Guest Experience
Our shoot day fell after a string of scorching 100+ degree June days, so the cooler 70-degree weather and overcast skies were a welcome change. The diffused light created a soft, natural look that perfectly complemented the Forty 1° North branding.
As a restaurant photographer, I always prioritize showcasing the atmosphere as much as the food. Guests don’t just come for the menu — they come for the environment, the vibe, and the memories created in the space. At Forty 1° North, we moved through multiple settings: breakfast indoors, cocktails on the waterfront deck, and even cozy moments in the moody library. Each space has its own personality, and together they create an unforgettable dining experience.
The Importance of Space in Restaurant Photography
Good restaurant photography isn’t only about beautifully plated dishes — it’s about showing the story of where guests spend their time. At Forty 1° North, the interiors, exteriors, and overall atmosphere play just as big a role as the food itself. By highlighting the variety of spaces, from the library to the deck overlooking the harbor, we were able to give potential guests a true sense of what dining here feels like.
Showcasing Waterfront Dining in Newport
One thing we knew we had to emphasize: the water. Forty 1° North is located right on the Newport Harbor, with a marina where guests can dock their yachts and enjoy the restaurant’s premium amenities. Even if you’re not arriving by boat (we can all dream!), the waterfront views are spectacular for anyone dining or sipping cocktails at The Pavilion Bar.
Location is everything — and this waterfront setting added a layer of luxury and relaxation to every shot. The goal was to make viewers feel like they were already there, enjoying the view.

She captured amazing shots, both stills and GIFs, and made the entire experience seamless and enjoyable. The gallery of images was super easy to access and beautifully organized. I’ll definitely be using her again in the future. Highly recommend!”
