Cocktail Photography with Starlino Cherries
After trying Starlino Cherries the summer Fancy Food Show I knew I needed to add them to my bar cart. They're incredibly delicious and the perfect finishing touch to my favorite cocktail - an Old Fashioned.
I also knew I had to do a shoot with these gorgeous little cherries. As a cocktail photographer, I'm always searching for ingredients that elevate both the drink and the image, and these cherries delivered on both fronts.
The Concept
Playing off the rich amber color of whiskey, I created a scene wrapped entirely in gold. The Old Fashioned has always been my favorite cocktail, and this shoot was my opportunity to celebrate it. I focused on lighting and texture to add drama to each frame, sourcing unique glassware that would bring visual interest and varying heights to the compositions.
The Details That Matter
The thick cherry syrup from Starlino catches light beautifully, creating depth and dimension in each shot. Photographers, but especially cocktail photographers, are always trying to capture those specular highlights, and the cherries provided them in spades! The Starlino jar itself also became a hero element - the vibrant label and jewel-toned cherries provided the perfect pop of color in an otherwise monotone palette.
As a cocktail photographer, I love working within constraints. The challenge of creating visual variety within a single color story pushes me to pay closer attention to texture, shadow, and the way light interacts with different surfaces. From cut crystal to silk fabric to the glossy surface of each cherry, the styling and lighting kept the images from looking boring or too monotone.
The Gold Series Gallery
This collection represents everything I love about cocktail photography: the marriage of bold colors with contemporary styling, the interplay of light and liquid, and the opportunity to showcase ingredients that add that special touch.
